Isaam Shariyf Houston is an emerging visual artist hailing from Irvington, New Jersey. Isaam has a passion for storytelling and hisstories are told in the form of acrylic, glass, oil, chalk and other mediums that help convey his inner most thoughts. An artist from the early age of nine, Isaam attended Rutgers University and studied at Cooper Union in New York City. His first major showing in Newark, New Jersey in 2009 was extremely well-received and attended by 250 art enthusiasts. In November 2010, he was chosen as one of GLAAD’s Top 100 Artists of 2010 and featured at the GLAAD OUTAuction. Isaam debuted his latest collection of works at the Smithsonian affiliated Russell Aldo Murray (“RAM”)Gallery in Newark, in conjunction with the Gallery’s first anniversary event on April 29, 2011 to another jam packed crowd. Isaam is passionate about keeping the arts alive in the city that helped shape and mold him as an artist. He is currently creating his latest effort inspired by his social and political views in Spring 2013 in Newark NJ.
