The Vince Lombardi Center of Hope opens in North ward just in tome for the summer

Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Newark Municipal Council members, along with community partners, will open the Vince Lombardi Center of Hope on Thursday, June 4, at 3:30 pm., at 201 Bloomfield Avenue. The Vince Lombardi Center is the third such center.

The Vince Lombardi Center of Hope will feature an after-school program for boys and girls, including children with special needs. Programming will also feature:

Acoustic guitar classes for special needs children
Zumba
Boys Scout Troop, including special needs children
Dance Clinic
After-school Academy
ESL classes
Rehearsal space for community dance groups

The Centers of Hope are nine community-based centers in all five of Newark’s wards that allow access to City services, wellness and enrichment opportunities where people live and work. The Centers will offer a variety of athletic, arts & culture, educational, environmental, healthy living and recreation programming to engage and empower the community. Staffed by the Division of Recreation, the Department of Health and Community Wellness, and other community partners, the centers will operate Mondays through Saturdays.

The Centers will feature diverse programming, including after-school programs, classes, workshops and services throughout the year including but not limited to: healthy meals, tutoring, literacy, early childhood, athletics, arts & culture, academic leadership, job readiness, financial literacy, computer and graphic art training and peer retreats.

Program partners include but aren’t limited to: Newark Public Schools, Newark Housing Authority, NewarkWORKS, Office of Film & Television/City of Newark, New Jersey Devils/Prudential Center, United Way, Greater Newark Conservancy, FHAK 2.0 (Facts Hang Around Knowledge), Big Brothers/Big Sisters, NJ PAC, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey, Newark YMCA, United Way, Aspira, LIFE, Newark G.A.L.S., Leaders for Life, GIRLS LIVE LOVE LAUGH, LEARN LAUGH LEAD, Grassroots Community Foundation, Yendor Productions, ArtLife Studios.

The official opening will take place today, June 4th at 3:30 pm, at 201 Bloomfield Avenue.
