The Technology & Entrepreneurship Talent Network will host a series of events next week to discuss and promote the technology sector in New Jersey.

Starts  Monday, April 21, 2014 at 1 p.m.

According to a recent press release, “the tech sector is one of the fastest growing in the state and early stage entrepreneurial companies account for more than two-thirds of all new net job growth.”

Michel Bitritto, Director of TETN at NJIT, believes that entrepreneurial technology requires a lifelong commitment to learning: “Eighteen months from now, your job responsibilities will inevitably change.”

TETN’s Industry Week will open Monday, April 21 at NJIT with keynote speakers Commissioner Harold J. Wirths of the N.J. State Department of Labor and Workforce Development, and Dennis Bone, Director of the Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship at Montclair State University and former president of Verizon.

Later that afternoon, NJIT will host a “People 2 Business” meet up in its student center atrium.

“Companies in their early stages may not be able to afford assistance for specific needs—marketing, financial advice, social networking strategies, etc.,” Bitritto said. “We’ve matched these companies up to speak with volunteers offering their skills or advice, whether they be job seekers, seasoned workers looking to give back or the recently retired.”

Other notable events include: a presentation by State Sen. Cory Booker at NJIT’s College of Architecture on Tuesday, April 22; a career and human resources panel at Juice Tank in Somerset on Wednesday, April 23; and a small business and start-up panel at The Enterprise Center in Mt. Laurel on Thursday, April 24.

Industry Week will conclude on Friday, April 25 with The Second Annual New Jersey Business Incubation Network Awards at The Rutgers EcoComplex in Bordentown. The event will recognize those companies and entrepreneurs making significant contributions to New Jersey’s workforce. Thomas Bracken, President and CEO of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, is expected to speak.

The Technology & Entrepreneurship Talent Network was created by the N.J. Department of Labor and Workforce Development to focus on the specific needs of the industry by connecting employers, job seekers, career centers and educational institutions. The network assists those who want to start or grow a business in New Jersey, or who want to pursue a career in technology areas such as IT/software, communications, life sciences, electronics/advanced manufacturing, and energy/environment.

NJIT will host the opening ceremony of the TETN Industry Week with keynote speakers the Honorable Aaron R. Fichtner, PhD., Deputy Commissioner of the NJ State Department of Labor and Workforce Development, and Dennis Bone, Director of the Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship at Montclair State University and former president of Verizon. NJIT will host a “People 2 BusinessTM” Meet Up following the kick-off session, connecting mid and upper-level volunteers with entrepreneurial companies, giving the former opportunities to contribute their skills while helping entrepreneurs grow their companies.
