On Sunday August 26, The Commons Community Development Corporation, along Washington Park Conservancy held it's 4th Annual tribute to Michael Jackson, and his musical legacy. Over the years, the Newark chapter of the Michael Jackson has made Washington Park the official location for his annual birthday celebration. As a result of the cancellation of Spike Lees MJ tribute in Brooklyn, Newark became the go-to destination for hundreds of die-hard Michael fans.

Hit after hit played and the people danced and sang along, cheering between sets. Most notably, Jasmine Wises cover of " I look to you" and Gabby Findleys cover of " I will always love you" paralyzed the crowd into total nostalgia. The event easily drew several hundred people, some who had never visited Washington Park.

The Washington Park Conservancy, in collaboration with the Cut Creators, the City of Newark’s Parks and Recreation, and the Central Ward Councilmen, Darrin Sharif, will host the "Whitney Houston, Celebration of Life Concert, " in honor of the star's Birthday (Today, August 9th). This event is not be missed! It will take place THIS SUNDAY, August 12th, between 12- 8 p.m. at Washington Park, in downtown Newark. The Yoga Movement continues to grow in Newark. Two weeks ago Glocally reported the growing Newark Yoga movement. This past week it continued, acknowledging the growing trend of Yoga, Sunday, with the Hip-Hop Yoga at the Lincoln Park Music Festival and free weekly yoga at Riverfront Park. The trend is growing indeed as reported by Star-Ledger Newark Reporter, Barry Carter, in Sunday’s Star-Ledger.

A few weeks ago, during my normal commute down Washington Street, I noticed an extra designated lane on the left hand side of the multi-laned road. Could it be a bike lane? There were no indicative markers such as a little man on a bicycle or arrows showing the flow of traffic.
