EXTRA!!! EXTRA!!! READ ALL ABOUT IT!!! The Newark Downtown District is launching a new initiative beginning January 2013 to showcase the many diverse restaurants and retail businesses in the Downtown District. (RE)Discover Newark: Dining & Retail Passport, published with support from The Star -Ledger and Berkeley College, will provide consumers with seasonal special offers, January through December. Passport holders will have the opportunity to enjoy specials from dozens of their favorite—or soon to be favorite—downtown businesses.
Intended to introduce a new population of customers to the gems within the central business district of Downtown Newark, while encouraging those already familiar with the city to rediscover some of its terrific assets, the 32-page brochure will feature nearly two dozen restaurants and a dozen retail establishments, including the cultural icon New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Restaurant Row eateries Edison Ale House, Loft 47 and Brick City Bar and Grill, and his-and-her stylish boutiques, Michael Lamont Neckwear and Karma Consignment Boutique.
Examples of special dining offers found inside the booklet include: Buy one entrée, get one 50% off; half-price bottles of wine with dinner; half-price breakfast entrees; half-price appetizers; happy hour specials; Saturday night specials; and many more delicious ways to save. On the retail side, discounts range from 10% – 20%, and are available at a variety of boutiques, crafts, sports, and clothing shops.
To receive the specials offered by the establishments, the holder presents the Passport to the business at time of ordering, or in the case of retail, at the time of payment. Once the transaction is complete, businesses will ‘stamp’ the Passport. To encourage customers to experience a variety of venues, people who collect stamps from 15 or more participating venues can bring their stamped booklets to the Newark Downtown District office for a special gift.
The Passport, being printed as a limited run, is available for a nominal fee of $5 beginning December 10, via the Newark Downtown District website and select participating establishments (see list below). A terrific holiday—or anytime—gift, this booklet will provide a year’s worth of fun and discovery. Proceeds from the sale of the booklets are returned back to downtown Newark via the Newark Downtown District’s many programs and projects, all designed to enhance the quality of life in the Downtown District.
