WHO: The City of Newark, the Newark Workforce Investment Board, and the Newark City of Learning Collaborative are offering a four-day, 30-hour program to more than 150 Newark residents entering their freshman year at four-year colleges and universities across the United States. Funding for the program is provided by the Victoria Foundation and the Bank of America.
Rutgers University–Newark is hosting the event to support the Newark City of Learning Collaborative’s goal of having 25 percent of Newark residents holding a post-secondary degree by 2025.
The Newark College Freshman Institute will feature the following speakers:
Mitch Cahn, president, Unionwear
Zack Lipner , vice president human resources, Barnabas Health
Dr. Kinna Perry, director, Rutgers Honors College
Randal Pinkett, “The Apprentice” winner, author, and entrepreneur; CEO, BCT Partners
Steve Safier, chief transformation and human resources officer, Panasonic
Tony Smith, manager of airport operations, United Airlines
WHAT: The third annual Newark College Freshman Institute offers professional and personal development workshops and presentations on various topics, including résumé writing, financial literacy, social media etiquette, networking, and career planning.
In addition, participants will have the opportunity to learn from local business leaders and workforce development professionals to prepare them for success both in college and the workforce. Students will earn a $250 stipend upon completion of the program.
