This year, LPCCD fundraising goes digital as it launches it’s first-‐ever Indiegogo campaign http://bit.ly/1owsagS in order to keep the annual celebration of Spirit and Dance free to the public. “As the festival grows in scope and stature, it is our goal to keep the festival a wonderful community-‐building experience. We are a non-‐profit, and so in order to ensure that the bulk of the events are free to concertgoers, we launched our first-‐ever crowd-‐sourcing campaign on Indiegogo, says Anthony Smith, festival executive producer. “We don’t have a traditional gala event, so the music festival serves as not only a ‘give-‐back’ to the attendees, it’s our annual fundraising platform also.”
As fundraiser goes, this is the second in the series with the first cocktail fundraiser being held on July 15th at Robert Treat Rooftop with performance by Russell Taylor.
As always, the Festival will include a range of entertainers performing a wide range of musical forms including Jazz, Gospel, House and Hip Hop and sounds from the African Diaspora; Youth performance showcase, green vendors, arts and craft vendors; local restaurants, organic farmers markets produce, and a health and wellness pavilion. For youth the Festival will offer games, storytelling, golf clinics, skateboard clinics and a host of family oriented activities. The Festival is sponsored by our corporate and community partners. The weekend will close with the musical celebrations of Jazz, Youth performances, Gospel, House and Hip Hop.
Festival attendees will experience a full day of family friendly fun on Friday, July 24th with Annual Lunch Time Jazz Concert with NewArkestra Jazz Band. The day continues with the Annual Newark Idol competition. Not your average talent show, these kids shine at this American Idol inspired showcase with celebrity judges and prizes. Newark Idol creator/festival producer Susu Stewart states, “Captivating the 11th Year Anniversary of Newark Idol I knew this year had to be SPECTACULAR! An evening you don’t want to miss as the City of Newark’s most talented high school kids present a showcase of talent that will leave you in complete admiration and even signing a song or two.” Hosting this year’s Newark Idol is American Idol season 6 finalist Sanjaya Malakar.
