Jackson & Lewis: Bad Boys

A new hilarious web series has hit YouTube, brought to us by Newark artists and residents and filmed in our great city. Jackson & Lewis, which just debuted its first episode, is sure to be a hit. The second episode premieres March 4 and can be viewed here along with the first.

Starring Omar Scroggins and Dee Martin as Jackson and Lewis, the series portrays the two contract killers as they carry out their orders. They have just hired a cameraman to follow them on their adventures. Jackson has recently suffered an unexplained accident, which renders his short term memory basically useless.

The first episode, Bad Boys, is only 4 minutes long, but is funny and shows promise for an entertaining series to come. In it, Jackson and Lewis struggle with what to do after they complete a hit. The jokes are fresh and original and the acting is great. Scroggins and Martin are not new to acting and it shows.

Omar Scroggins has been acting for over 20 years and has appeared in hundreds of independent films and commercials, including for the NFL, Progresso, and Ikea. (He is also the Executive Producer of the show.) Dee Martin has appeared in Boardwalk Empire, among other things.

The original theme song is a pleasant touch, too, by Safiya Grimsley. It’s a catchy tune that really sticks with you. The creator notes that it was very important for them to have a theme song, something that many current shows are lacking. Grimsley, a theater and dance teacher, is a Newark native also and a Producer of the show.

Independent filmmaker Pierre M. Coleman, who is also a Producer, created the show. He is a Newark native and a graduate of Howard University’s School of Communication. He and DuBois Ashong are residents of local gallery Solo(s) Project House. Ashong is the Associate Producer, Director of Photography, and Editor. He is a Newark native and a graduate of Hampton University. Together they have completed projects that have played in the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival, San Diego Black Film Festival, and On Demand for Verizon Fios.

Associate Producer and Audio Engineer Melvin Jones, Jr. and Associate Producer Kaylan Jones are also residents of Solo(s) Project House in Newark.
