We introduced Vonda’s Kitchen sometime ago as a part of the Lincoln Park Coastal Music festival outstanding food vendors last year, featuring a healthy salad demonstration.
But sometimes we need to revisit these tasty places. Vonda’s Kitchen has been around for a little over a year, and has become prominent restaurant serving southern cuisine in Newark. Vonda’s positioned itself by being a healthy alternative to southern good food. The other southern restaurants worth mentioning in Newark are Je’s which we have also featured, and John’s Place. Vonda’s surprised my palette with one of her originals creations, a shrimp burger. Now to be honest, I came to the restaurant to get her chicken and waffles (which I will rave about another day). But for those who know me, burgers are my thing.
So the shrimp burger really stole my curiosity. The presentation was gorgeous. The shrimp burger was made up of little shrimp, with the binding ingredient being salmon palette, other ingredient include, finely chopped celery, you can’t see them but the flavor was present, and lastly a hint jalapenos pepper (I believe), and a tangy mayonnaise, and on the side Parmesan sprinkled over natural cut fires.
Well I tell you she had my mouth jumping; the blend of ingredient complemented one another. The attached photo hopefully gives you at least a sample of what my mouth felt. Vonda’s Kitchen is located at 183 West Kinnye Street, and every time I visited the restaurant Vonda has been present. The food is worth the trip.
