This week I visited Halsey Fabrics to buy fabric and sewing items for what may be the last costume that I ever make.
Located at 91 Halsey Street, the fabric shop has been there since as long as I can remember being in Newark. Halsey Fabrics has a lived in quality, with wall to wall bolts of fabrics starting at around $3 per yd. I usually like popping in for the great service and to pick up thread, or fabric glue when I need some for a project.
Like most stores, they also have a discount bin with fabric scraps. That’s where I found a fabulous piece of gold satin at $1.25 per yard, perfect for my mayan/alien hybrid costume for a party this Friday, celebrating the end of the world. If we do survive the Mayan apocalypse unscathed, I suggest taking a trip to Halsey Fabrics the next time you grab some mac and cheese from the Elbow Room.
