Brick City Varsity Presents: Looks for Less VIII

Happy Monday, mavens and bargainistas. Each week, your neighborhood mecca of style Brick City Varsity endeavors to replicate designer looks on a Brick City budget. Featuring items purchased from Newark-area thrift stores (which are available for purchase at our private, appointment-only showroom in North Newark), our ensembles provide a virtual playbook that will help you create show-stopping looks tailored for your life in Brick City.

This week, we’re recreating one of our favorite fall looks — an ultra-dapper, ultra-luxe  blazer and turtleneck pairing. This Armani Collezioni look uses contrasting houndstooth to create a two-tone effect in brown and camel. The layered turtleneck adds on-trend colorblock, while enhancing its traditional—yet contemporary—appeal. An offshoot of the Giorgio Armani label, the chic ready-to-wear line Armani Collezioni is known for its impeccably tailored suits and separates. What it’s not known for, however, is being friendly to the wallet. And that’s where BCV comes in!

To replicate the look, we’ve reassigned the houndstooth from being the obvious focal-point to serving as the much-anticipated reveal, peeking underneath the jacket. The oversized scale of the pattern allows the fashion forward gent to make a statement this fall while the more modest man might opt to layer it with our black Banana Republic jacket ($25). The jacket is, of course, a less formal alternative to the blazer and more realistic for the unpredictable early fall weather. With the shirt at $17, belt at $15 and slacks at $18, the total look will only cost you $75. The designer jacket alone is priced at a whopping $390, so shopping BCV will allow you to enjoy $315 of your hard-earned cash while strutting the Brick City streets in style! What’s not to love?
