Brick City Varsity Presents: Looks for Less VI

Happy Monday, mavens and bargainistas. After last week’s detour, this week’s “Looks for Less” feature returns you to our regularly scheduled endeavor to replicate designer looks on a Brick City budget. Featuring items purchased from Newark-area thrift stores (which are available for purchase at our private, appointment-only showroom in North Newark), this week’s ensemble is a virtual playbook that will help you create show-stopping looks tailored for your next visit to one of Newark’s most treasured cultural insitutions: the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

This fall, many Newarkers will be flocking to the NJPAC to indulge in its dynamic fall line-up. Whether waxing classical at a New Jersey Symphony Orchestra performance, getting downright soulful at A Night in Motown featuring En Vogue and  The Four Tops, or enjoying readings at the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, the common 7pm start time creates a significan sartorial quandry for those joining co-workers for an evening outing. What does one wear?!

This week’s ensemble strikes the tender balance between work and play — daytime office fare and evening glamor. This perfectly professional gold blazer transitions easily from the boardroom to the box office. Simply switch out your stodgy black slacks for this shimmery sequin skirt, and you’re half way there. In this ensemble, we’ve also turned up the heat by featuring a peek of lace, courtesy of a vintage red teddy that whispers “the work day is over – let the fun begin! You’ll be able to enjoy the sights and sounds at the NJPAC without a care in the world having saved a whopping $834 by skipping the designer mark-ups and shopping BCV instead. How’s that for balling on a budget?
