Making it Home

HI! I’m Carrie & that’s Rob.

brick city love on Market

We’re Brick City Love.

I believe that the pride taken in one’s home directly correlates to the pride taken in ones community. I don’t mean expensive furnishings or lavish antiques. I’m talking about pride; investing yourself emotionally in a space and committing to make it your own.

Too often people see their homes as temporary. Perhaps you’re only renting for a year. “Why bother decorating? It’ll only have to be taken down and packed up in a few months.” I know. I’ve been there but I would strongly encourage you to throw that logic out of the window.

Whether your space is a permanent home or not, it is your HOME. It is where you live and love; where you make memories and develop traditions. Do not wait until your “forever home” to put down roots and engage with your community. You don’t get this time back. Make the most of your current space and enjoy it. Create an environment that makes your soul smile to come home to. Investing your time and energy into it is worthwhile.

We’re here to help get you started.

New homeowners ourselves, we’ve lived on both sides of rent vs. buy. Our blog, BrickCityLove.com, chronicles the renovation process happening over at our rowhome. I get sidetracked with projects and can’t wait until we can decorate. We’re here to share tips, tricks, & projects you can try in your own home, whether you rent or own. In the meantime, take a peek at some projects we’ve recently completed.

We’re putting down roots here in Brick City and hope you’ll join us.

Woo hoo! Everyone has got to read Brick City Love…they make you feel like you can gut your entire house and turn it into a palace…LOL jk. But seriously the projects are so relevant – they aren’t telling you about molding or something that you have no interest in…it’s mostly stuff that makes you say, “hmmm, wonder if I could…”

(BTW if you did a post on molding then oops, sorry. But I won’t be doing that anytime soon.) HAHA

Having had to gut and rennoate my 100 year old I can feel for the process and all the fun learning one has to go through. Best of luck on your projects!

this is a great read and i totally agree! We are apartment dwellers (again, for now i suppose) but we definitely made this place our own, not like our very first apartment that was bare-walled and unpainted for a year or two. It does make it feel like home!

  8. Doctor Mike Says:

Took a look at your site and your place looks really nice! Great job! What area of Newark are you all living in?

  9. Shameful D. Says:

I must have forwarded this blog to most of my friends (both glocally and brick city love). It’s alot easier to forward people whats going on and what they may have missed rather than explain. On a side note my wife saw the fence posting and immediately gave me a hard time about not having our backyard project finished.
