The Head

There’s a lot of public art around town, like the statue of Columbus in Washington Park, or the cannon and sword in Military Park, but nothing is like the massive head in front of the courthouse.

To get a sense of perspective, this titan is taller than the average person. I think I came up to it's eyes.

I stumbled across Bonk when I last went to Stadium Sports Bar and Grill.  Seeing the eye mask, I first thought: Cool, the city has commissioned someone to sculpt Robin, the Boy Wonder, out of a boulder, and plop it in front of the courthouse to remind us that Batman cannot be far behind.

I like that it’s… different, but there is nothing about a giant head that is not ridiculous.  It reminds me of the obstacle on Double Dare when the kids would dig around a giant nose to capture an orange flag soaked in “boogers.”

Wow, a decapitaded head of Themis, goddess of justice, in front of the Federal Courthouse… now THAT’s symbolism! Kudos to the artist.

I never really thought about this bust as being weird before, but I suppose you’re right. I can’t think of another place I’ve seen a giant head… Cue crude jokes.
