Bad Signs

When you hear the phrase “a bad sign,” you’re probably thinking metaphorically.  Here in Newark, though, we go the extra mile and make it happen.

The Peek-a-Boobery is a couple blocks away, between a Starbucks and Babies R Us.

Are there so many strippers around town that there merits an actual hub for all your undressing needs?  It’s no wonder why the locals in Krug’s Tavern – across the street from Sassy Assy – are so friendly.  Your try to wear a sour puss spending your day ogling out a tavern window to see dancers strutting in and out of a shop to buy leather and lace. You can’t do it.

Consider your sign proffread.

Someone at Dream's was obviously napping during the proofreading of this sign.

It took me a hot minute to pick up on the stupidity of this sign, but one day, on the way back from Mom’s, it popped me in the jaw like Mr. Sandman from Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out.  Costumers welcome?  Costumers?!?  Is Dream’s a hair salon or a Halloween store?

Thanks for the head's up. I almost came in here with only three quarters and a wooden nickel.

So this neon sign describes, um, EVERY STORE IN AMERICA.  So what’s worse, that someone thought it prudent to create this, or that the owners of a Broad Street thrift thought it’d be a good idea to actually buy it?

These signs are shameful in a city that was once home to the strip club, “Buns! Ain’t No Bakery.”

  2. KC Says:

Heh, These are pretty funny. You know what really drive me nuts? Idiots who makes signs that feature the inappropriate use of quotes and apostrophe “S”.

For example: Shoes “For Sale” (well are they or aren’t they?!)

or Parking for Tenant’s Only. (What’s an “Only”?)
or All Other Vehicle’s Will Be Towed (I didn’t know vehicles had wills, let alone estates!)

  3. mallards Says:

Ugh I HATE the misuse of apostrophes, KC! That has got to be my #1 pet peeve.

  4. KC Says:

“Buns! Ain’t No Bakery” – ha, ha I remember that one!

  5. Gata Says:

    I remember Buns too, LOL
And that apostrophe thing drives me nuts!
Sassy Assy…when I heard the name, I was on the floor…but I guess since they sell what they sell, including those expensive Brazilian jeans…what else would attract more attention besides its customers? LOL

  6. Christo Says:

Everything $1 or More???? LOL. That’s absurd.

  7. john Says:

no way all those places really exist! haha

  8. Jess Says:

hahahahaha i stupid things like those signs honestly its great.

  9. track5 Says:

A few years ago there were plans to open a cigar bar in Westfield. The proposed name was Tips and Ashes. Didn’t get approved.

  10. Quade Connolly Says:

Tips and Ashes… love it. It’s like something out of the Simpsons. King Toot’s music store, the Leftorium. Sure it was Westfield and not Springfield, track5?

  11. track5 Says:

Ha! Yes it was. And site for that proposed emporium of decorum now houses Sweetwaters Steak House.
    Doh!
