Michael Jackson’s death may have brought out the worst in tabloid journalism and media exploitation of celebrities’ trials and tribulations. But it has had one very large, positive effect: People are rediscovering Mr. Jackson’s music–the great dance rhythms of his early solo work, the classics of the Jackson 5, and even some of the cutting-edge production of his later work.
The Common’s new “After Dark in the Park” series in Washington Park (across from the Newark Public Library) will celebrate Jackson’s life and work with a “Birthday Party” on Friday August 28 (Jackson’s real birthdate is August 29) with live entertainment, art, a DJ, dancing, and more. The festivities take pace from 5 PM to 10 PM.
Attend this event and I think you will find that “you can’t stop ’til you get enough.” (Sorry, couldn’t help myself!)
