In response to Chris, who sent in a recent email to tips@glocallynewark.com , we hope we can help in your search for some natural produce.
For some fresh fruits and vegetables at a good price, your best shot is going to a farmers market. Every Thursday between 10am-4pm there is one located at 275 West Market Street. There is also one starting Wednesday, June 25th that runs to October 15th from 11am to 3pm located on the corner of Washington and Broad Street at Washington Park.
For your organic poultry needs head to D’Artagnan, Inc. located at 280 Wilson Avenue. There you will find a large variety of meats for your desires and they also deliver which is a plus. For other grocery requests you could head out to a ShopRite or Pathmark near by but if they’re not to your taste, here’s a list of some grocery stores around Newark.
• Park Avenue Food Market

Newark, NJ 07107

re: farmer’s markets – I got a kick out of the military park farmer’s market last year. I thought it was a little odd that a “Jersey Fresh” market was selling bananas, in general, let alone in October. Then i looked closer and laughed even harder at the “product of peru” sticker that they left on the banana. Hung out for a little bit and got to watch the folks behind the farm stand opening up sacks of potatoes and transferring them to little quart packets to make it look like they had picked them and brought them fresh from wherever. I’m a huge proponent of eating local and all that jazz, so all I’d recommend is knowing what’s in season and shying away from everything else.
also – seabra’s supermarkets are solid too.

Don’t forget about “Brick City Farms ” across from Lincoln Park. They are a great organization and needs us to survive. If you love organic & fresh it can’t get any better than that. You can pull your veg right from the soil. http://brickcityurbanfarms.wordpress.com/
